Ivins, Utah

Ivins, Utah is a bedroom community in Washington County that is northwest of Saint George.

This area on the Santa Clara bench was settled after the construction of the Ivins Reservoir in 1918 and the completion of canal works into the area. The town is named after Anthony Woodward Ivins (September 16, 1852 – September 23, 1934) who rose to the position of first counselor of the presidency in the LDS Church.

The town was incorporated in 1935 and the area grew as a rural community. In the latter part of the twentieth century the area began growing rapidly. The 1970 population was 137. The 2010 population was 6,753. Current population estimates are over 8000.
